About Sonneborn
Our facility in Petrolia, Pennsylvania, traces its heritage back to the mid- 1800s and the advent of the oil industry in western Pennsylvania. There, petrolatum was pioneered for medical salve and ointment applications with materials previously considered unusable. The next major development came as a result of the first World War, when white oil from Europe was unavailable — the Petrolia facility became the first producer of white oil in the United States.
