Passive House

Passive house building is a set of design principles and building standards aimed at achieving a super insulated, airtight building that is primarily heated by passive solar gains and internal gains from sources like occupants and appliances. Energy loss is minimized by an airtight building envelope, lack of thermal bridges and super insulation. The remaining heating and cooling needs are so minimal as to not require traditional boilers and heating systems like standard homes. A ventilation system supplies constant fresh air increasing air quality and decreasing the need to constantly open windows.

Security

Home security begins with windows and doors. Being essentially large openings in the facade, they are the top entry points for potential intruders. However, they don't have to be. Modern technology and design offers a wide range of ways to improve both safety and security while deterring intruders. From special glazing to multipoint locks, locking handles and even roller shutters, today's windows can easily be custom built to meet the security needs of any home and location.

Variety

At times, the location or shape of the window will limit your options, particularly with less common shapes such as trapezoids, triangles or round windows. However, modern window hardware can offer up to four different operating mechanisms at a time, for example: closed, tilt, turn and parallel action. Old-fashioned single and double hung windows however, are limited by their outdated technology and design.
