JAB ANSTOETZ was founded by Josef Anstoetz in 1946 as a wholesale business for decorative and upholstery fabrics under the name JAB – short for Josef Anstoetz Bielefeld. The company expanded rapidly by 1949, entered the computer age with its first UNIVAC system in 1971, strengthened international business through Società Creazioni JAB in Milan and Rome in 1973, founded JAB ANSTOETZ Carpets in 1974, introduced the "THE DESIGN COMPANY" slogan in 2023, expanded BW Bielefelder Werkstätten's production and storage facilities in 2024, and celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2026, alongside BW Bielefelder Werkstätten's 70 years of company history.
