www.dewittproducts.comFounded in 1931 by Alfred D McClellan, DeWitt Products was formed after Alfred lost his cedar shingle company to fire. With insurance companies unable to pay due to the depression, he sold off his family home to pay creditors, moved the family into a one bedroom flat, and started over. Armed with a cement mixer and a couple asphalt coating formula’s, “Mac” as he was known as, mixed product in the morning, sold it the afternoon, and bought groceries on the way home. In 1938 he was able to purchase a building in Southwest Detroit, where DeWitt’s remains today.
