Thesis Headquarters

Based in Portland, Oregon, Thesis is a digital creative agency that values collaboration and embraces a culture of hybrid work. The process for their new headquarters design took place during a global pandemic, which shaped the building on every level-challenging the team to rethink office design to prioritize comfortable "mid-door" spaces that bring nature indoors, and a home-like setting to the office. LEVER's concept centers the new Thesis campus as a place for community-a hub for hosting events and gatherings, team building, and collaboration. Located in Portland's Slabtown neighborhood where Forest Park meets the city grid, this new 40,000 sf mass timber urban campus offers connections on all levels to both city and nature that reflect the unique team culture and values of the Thesis community. Thesis is sustainably designed with a custom mass timber structure made from Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) panels with glulam columns and beams-prefabricated at [Timberlab](https://timberlab.com/), only miles from the site. The use of regional mass timber products gives the building its timeless Pacific Northwest aesthetic. The LEED Gold design prioritizes energy use reduction through abundant daylight and efficient systems, including on-site solar panels.

UVIC - Cheko'nien Passive House

With growing demand for on-campus housing, the University of Victoria embarked on the first major project of its new Campus Plan. The effort, a new student housing and dining facility, is part of the university's goal to enhance the student experience and create a more vibrant and walkable campus. We built upon this vision by engaging the University and its stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, to create a significant mixed-use complex as the "heart of residence life," establishing a standard to guide future development. With 782 beds, a 600-seat dining hall, and conference, academic, and common spaces, the facility is a model for residential life, organized to emphasize social connection and engagement as part of the academic experience. With a high-quality, sustainable design and precedent-setting Passive House targets, the new Student Housing and Dining complex is set to make an impact on the national and international stage.

Simon Fraser University (SFU) - Courtyard Residence

The newly opened Courtyard Residence is a state-of-the-art housing facility designed to cater to the needs of students and guests. This multi-functional space offers rooms, modern amenities, and a central courtyard providing a peaceful and inviting atmosphere for all. The main office of Residence and Housing is located on the main floor and with its prime location and modern design, the Courtyard Residence is the perfect place for all. By prioritizing community engagement and student success, the Courtyard Residence is more than just a place to live; it's a place to thrive.

Art Rutkin

Nestled into an open hillside with a sweeping roof oriented to the southern sun, Art Rutkin Elementary School evokes the patterns and textures of the surrounding forest, clearly expressing its timber structural system and maximizing student connections to the natural world. Pursuing Net Zero energy, the school steps up the hill and is configured in two parallel bars linked by a generous commons. The south bar features public spaces such as the gym and media center, while the north bar contains classrooms and collaboration spaces. Open courtyards to the east and west offer easy connections to the landscape while bringing in natural light and ventilation. Named after a beloved longtime principal in the Tigard-Tualatin School District, Art Rutkin Elementary serves 650 PK-5 students and the community with a welcoming, comfortable environment.
