Why Glazing Matters So Much More Than Insulation

Windows Energy Use

Course Description

We tend to think of a building’s energy efficiency almost entirely in terms of how well insulated it is, but the most important factor influencing energy use is not insulation, but glazing ratio (how much of the enclosure is opaque versus glazed).  Insulation, of course, still matters! And this presentation runs through some hypothetical scenarios to put glazing and insulation in context so that we can better understand how each relate to overall energy performance.
